Combining her backgrounds in the visual language of design, experimental lettering, and Japanese calligraphy, Mary’s artwork is best described as written drawings. Often created in a series, she takes inspiration from writing systems, patterns in nature, and musical rhythms. She studied both formally and informally in Philadelphia, New York, Japan, and Switzerland. She recently received her Masters in Organizational Management from the School for International Training in Vermont, and spent two and a half years abroad with Peace Corps in Uzbekistan and Romania working in non-profit development.
