Mary Schapiro is the lead director of the kraft foods board of directors and the chief executive officer and chairman of the financial industry regulatory authority (finra). finra was formed in july 2007 through the merger of national association of securities dealers, inc. (nasd) and the new york stock exchange member regulation. before assuming her current post in july 2007, she was chief executive officer and chairman of the national association of securities dealers, inc. since 2006. ms. schapiro previously served as vice chairman of nasd and president of the regulatory policy and oversight division. finra is the largest non-governmental regulator for all securities firms doing business with the united states public.
previously, she was chairman of the commodity futures trading commission (cftc), appointed by president clinton in 1994. as chairman, she participated in the president's working group on financial markets with the secretary of the treasury, and the chairmen of the federal reserve board and the securities and exchange commission (sec). prior to assuming the chairmanship of the cftc, ms. schapiro served as a commissioner of the securities and exchange commission, appointed by presidents reagan and bush and was named acting chairman of the sec in 1993.
ms. schapiro is a member of the board of trustees of franklin and marshall college and the board of directors of duke energy. a graduate of franklin and marshall college, ms. schapiro has a j.d. degree from george washington university. |
