Mary Blasy Biography :

Mary K. Blasy earned her Juris Doctor degree at UCLA School of Law in 2000 after obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Economics at California State University, Sacramento in 1996. Ms. Blasy is an inaugural graduate of UCLAW’s Business Law Program, Corporate Concentration. While in law school Ms. Blasy served as Editor-in-Chief of the UCLA Law Journal of Environmental Law and Policy (’99-’00) and as a Judicial Intern to the Honorable Edward Rafeedie of the U.S. District Court, Central District of California (’98).

Ms. Blasy was admitted to the California Bar in 2000 and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts of California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Ms. Blasy is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America; the San Francisco, Los Angeles and Century City Bar Associations; the Federal Bar Association; and the American Business Trial Lawyers Association. Her practice focuses on the investigation, commencement, and prosecution of securities fraud class actions, M&A litigation, and shareholder derivative suits. As part of her work advising the firm’s institutional clients, Ms. Blasy has been responsible for initiating and prosecuting some of the largest shareholder class actions in recent years, including the insider trading class action brought against Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. months before the government brought its criminal insider trading action (resulting in a $30 million recovery to class members); a shareholder class action for breach of fiduciary duties brought on behalf of Clayton Homes stockholders when Clayton Homes was taken private in a $1.2 billion acquisition by Berkshire Hathaway (resulting in a $5 million recovery to class members); a securities fraud class action against international pharmaceutical behemoth Astrazeneca PLC currently pending in the Southern District of New York; a securities fraud class action brought on behalf those who purchased HCA, Inc. common stock while its executives dumped more than $100 million of their own stock back into the market (resulting in a $20 million recovery to class members); and securities fraud class actions against Dell, Inc. and Yahoo!, Inc. and their insiders who sold billions of dollars worth of stock at inflated prices while concealing corporate misconduct, the disclosure of which would result in billions of dollars in market losses. Ms. Blasy also initiates and prosecutes shareholder derivative actions against the executives of companies charged with violating the nation's laws to restore shareholder value. Recent cases include actions on behalf of shareholders of BAE Systems plc, BP PLC, Hewlett-Packard, Inc., The Royal Dutch Shell Group of Companies, Electronic Data Systems, and Merck & Co., Inc. Heralded by the investment community for empowering shareholders to reign in corporate malfeasance and increase corporate accountability, the successful prosecution of these actions has been widely recognized by corporate governance experts and courts as conferring billions of dollars in added shareholder value through tailored governance therapeutics designed to"prevent future harm" and "prevent future governance failures." Unite Nat'l Ret. Fund and Plumbers and Pipefitters Nat'l Pension Fund, Derivatively on behalf of Royal Dutch Petroleum Companies and The "Shell" Transport And Trading Companies, PLC, v. Phillip Watts, et al., U.S. Dist. NJ. No. 04-CV-3603, Opinion (Dennis M. Cavanaugh, U.S.D.J., 10/28/05) at 4.

Ms. Blasy has lectured concerning securities litigation, corporate governance, and privacy rights to law school students and attorneys as part of continuing legal education.
