Mary Ellen Posthauer, RD, CD, LD is a registered dietitian and Regional Vice-President for Supreme Care West, Inc., a dietetic consultation company to long term care facilities, group homes and hospitals. She is immediate Past President of the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel. Prior to her election to the NPUAP, she represented the American Dietetic Association, a collaborating organization to the panel. Mary Ellen is past chairman of the Dietetics in Developmental and Psychiatric Disorders and the Consultant Dietitians in Healthcare Facilities, dietetic practice groups of the American Dietetic Association. She is on the Editorial Advisory Board of Advances in Skin and Wound Care and writes the monthly Nutrition Matters article. Mary Ellen is past President of the Indiana Dietetic Association, the In. CD-HCF and the In. DD-PP practice groups.
Mary Ellen has authored numerous chapters and articles on nutrition and the elderly including: Nutritional Care for the Older Adult: A Wound Care Patient Education Resource Manual and Nutrition and Wound Care. She is a member of the Nutrition Council: Clinical Strategies in Long Term Care. Mary Ellen was one of the clinical investigators for a randomized, prospective, controlled, multicenter trial in 23 long tern care facilities to examine the rate of healing using a concentrated, fortified, collagen protein hydrolysate supplement. The results were published in March 2006 in Advances in Skin and Wound Care. She is currently on the American Dietetic Association’s research committee to determine the cause of unintended weight loss in the elderly.
Mary Ellen received the American Dietetic Association’s Award of Excellence in Consultation and Private Practice and the Medallion Award, one of ADA’s highest honors as well as the Distinguished Alumni Award, Outstanding Service Award and Citizenship Award from Purdue University.
