Mary E. McAuliffe was named vice president, External Relations for Union Pacific Corporation in January 1992. In her position, McAuliffe is responsible for Union Pacific's government affairs operation. She also is treasurer of Union Pacific's political action committee - the Fund for Effective Government - which distributes $2 million per election cycle to candidates for federal office. McAuliffe began her career with Union Pacific in 1989 as director of Washington Affairs, Transportation and Taxes.
Before joining Union Pacific, McAuliffe was a senior associate for The Wexler Group, a government relations consulting firm. She served as deputy chief of staff and chief of staff for the Senate Finance Committee where she worked on the Tax Reform Act of 1986. Before that assignment, McAuliffe was a member of the senior staff of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee where she was responsible for transportation policy affecting rail, truck, aviation and pipelines. McAuliffe worked for the Senate Government Operations Committee's Subcommittee on Federal Spending Practices and was a legislative assistant for Senator Marlow Cook (R-KY). She spent a total of 19 years working in the Senate.
McAuliffe holds a bachelor's degree in government from Indiana University and has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. She also completed the Senior Managers in Government course at The Kennedy School, Harvard University. |
