Mr. Sloman is Senior Counsel and an original founding member of Carrington, Coleman, Sloman & Blumenthal, L.L.P. His practice covers a broad range of litigation and general business matters, with particular emphasis on briefing and arguing appellate cases in both federal and state courts, including post-verdict proceedings and significant substantive motions in the trial courts. He often works with attorneys outside the Firm in the appeals aspects of their cases. He has successfully argued cases before the United States Supreme Court and the Texas Supreme Court. He won two precedent-setting cases in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, rejecting the right to enjoin a takeover on antitrust grounds. In 1992 he successfully argued an injunction case involving $2.25 billion before the Fifth Circuit. Other representative cases he has handled have included issues of discrimination, securities, commercial products liability, patents, professional legal malpractice, antitrust, banking and related federal regulatory litigation, intellectual property, bankruptcy, and constitutional law. Mr. Sloman has been active in numerous professional organizations and has spoken on appellate advocacy and practice to various Bar groups and was invited to speak before the National Association of Attorneys General in 1993, concerning a case then pending before the United States Supreme Court on the use of the antitrust argument in connection with takeovers. The case was subsequently dismissed. Mr. Sloman is admitted to practice in all U.S. District Courts for Texas, and the Southern District of New York; U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second, Third, Fifth, Tenth, and Eleventh Circuits; and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Sloman is an arbitrator on the Commercial Panel and the Large Complex Case Panel of the American Arbitration Association. He has also appeared as counsel in commercial arbitrations. In a 2004 Texas Monthly survey of over 65,000 attorneys across the state of Texas, Mr. Sloman was one of 17 Carrington Coleman attorneys designated as a Texas Super Lawyer. Mr. Sloman's designation was in appellate law. He is also listed in the 2006-2007 edition of The Best Lawyers in America, in commercial litigation and appellate law. |
