Description of Practice:
Marv is an experienced trial lawyer who has handled a broad range of complex civil litigation cases, including real estate, securities, partnership, and professional liability claims involving lawyers and accountants. Marv has over 35 years of experience in resolving commercial disputes through all processes, including private judging, mediation, arbitration, and jury and non-jury trials. In the general business arena, Marv has litigated contract and partnership disputes, business torts, libel and slander cases, intellectual property issues, product liability, and insurance coverage matters. His experience in handling complex commercial disputes in the real estate field includes joint venture disputes, purchase and sale agreements, title insurance, lease disputes, technology issues, and related land use matters.
Marv has published articles for litigation, real estate, and professional liability newspapers and magazines. He spoke to the California Judges Association in December 1991 on the topic of "Purchase and Sale of Real Property." Other publications include: "For Whom It Tolls," April, 1995; "Legislative Action Required for Professional (Liability) Claims, April, 1995; "Operating Pass-Through Expenses, A Legal Hotbutton," April, 1995; and "Where Did Everybody Come From?" November, 1995. Marv serves on the Board of Directors of Attorney's Mutual Ltd., a professional liability carrier in California. He is also member of its executive group and chairs its Underwriting Committee. Marv is active in professional and civic organizations, including the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the Association of Business Trial Lawyers.
Educational History:
Mr. Garrett graduated from Northwestern University in 1965 with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering, and in 1967 with an MBA, with honors. He received his J.D. from the University of Southern California in 1970 with Order of the Coif honors. |
