Dr. Peretz has been editor-in-chief of The New Republic since 1974. He served on the faculty of Harvard University from 1966 to 2001 when he retired. Dr. Peretz also serves as director of 11 mutual funds managed by the Dreyfus-Mellon Bank Group and of the Digital Learning Group a web-based textbank publisher. He is a Founding Partner of Montefiore Partner.
Dr. Peretz holds a bachelor of arts degree from Brandeis University and master's and doctorate degrees from Harvard. He holds numerous honorary degrees from institutions at home and abroad. He has been awarded the Jerusalem Medal the Medal for Distinction of the University of Missouri's School of Journalism and the National Magazine Award for Outstanding Achievement in Essays and Criticism and for General Excellence of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
Dr. Peretz is past chairman and now honorary chairman of the Jerusalem Foundation. He is a trustee of the Center for Blood Research at Harvard Medical School Bard College the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research The Institute of United States Studies in London and the American Academy for Liberal Education a college and university-accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
