Prior to becoming Chairman of GfK Customer Research North America, Dr. Lautman worked at a consulting firm, Applied Psychological Services, Wayne, PA. where he built mathematical simulation models for the Department of Defense. Dr. Lautman then joined ARBOR, a marketing consulting and research firm where he was eventually elected President and Senior Partner. While at ARBOR, he served as the Principal Director for over 500 marketing research and strategy engagements for clients such as ATT, Domino's, The Dial Corporation, Ralston Purina, McDonald's, Bristol-Myers, Campbell Soup, Marriott, AT&T, Kraft, General Motors, Gillette, ConAgra, Nestle, Gillette and Merck.
Dr. Lautman has published over 30 articles and papers in marketing and technical journals and is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Advertising Research. He has also served as an Associate Editor for Marketing Research: A Magazine of Management & Applications and as the Industry Representative to the Association of Consumer Research where he has been a member of the President's Advisory Council. He also guest lectured for five years at the Cornell University Hotel School on Marketing and Market Research and taught psychology and statistics at The Pennsylvania State University.
Dr. Lautman received his Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York and his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in 1976 from The Pennsylvania State University, specializing in mathematical psychology.
