Mr. Galvin is a Member of Dykema's Employment Group. He has practiced law since 1973, focusing on traditional labor law, all aspects of employment litigation and related fields of concerns representing management.
Mr. Galvin was selected for inclusion in the 2008 edition of The Best Lawyers in America, published by Woodward/White, Inc., in the specialties of Labor and Employment Law. In addition, he was designated as a Michigan Super Lawyer for 2007 (an honor earned by only 5% of Michigan lawyers) by the publishers of Law & Politics, in the Primary Practice Area: Employment Litigation - Defense.
Mr. Galvin is a member of several professional organizations including, the American Bar Association, the Michigan State Bar Association, the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, and the Industrial Relations Association of Detroit.
Experience
Traditional labor arena experience includes collective bargaining negotiations, arbitration hearings, union organizing drives, unfair labor practice proceedings, occupational safety matters, and wage and hour proceedings.
Appearances before the National Labor Relations Board and the Michigan Employment Relations Commission, nationally known labor arbitrators, the state and federal Departments of Labor and the state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administrations.
Litigation of employment relations matters (including appellate matters) before numerous state and federal courts, both bench and jury, involving all aspects of discrimination (age, sex, race, religion, national origin, disability, sexual harassment) wrongful discharge (including such matters as negligent hiring, retention and whistleblower matters).
Trade secrets, unfair competition and ERISA litigation.
Handling of discrimination matters before administrative agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Michigan Department of Civil Rights and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs.
Counseling of clients on policies, procedures and other preventive measures to avoid discrimination, wrongful discharge and other claims that can result from the employer's personnel decisions.
Frequent speaker at various business meetings on employment-related topics.
Drafting, implementation and utilization of alternate dispute resolution procedures.
