Mark Schmitz was elected Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company effective August 7 2007.
He joined Goodyear from Tyco International where he had been Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the company's Fire and Security unit since 2003.
At Tyco Schmitz was part of a leadership team brought in to turn around the Fire and Security unit a $12 billion business with eight divisions worldwide. During his tenure the leadership team implemented new business models and financial controls that underpinned the successful turnaround and the establishment of a solid control environment at Tyco's largest business unit.
Previously Schmitz worked two years as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Plug Power Inc. where he led a successful public offering and merger and implemented new financial forecasting capital planning and corporate governance procedures.
Schmitz began his career in 1980 with General Motors Corp. where he held various positions in the finance organization rising to the post of Assistant to the President and Chief Executive Officer. In 1994 he moved to Brazil where he was President of the automaker's GMAC Finance subsidiary Director of Finance for Mercosul operations and Director of Finance for General Motors de Brazil. From 1999 to 2001 he served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of GM's DirectTV Latin America unit.
In addition to Brazil Schmitz has had corporate assignments in England and China and he speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese and Portuguese. Born July 3 1951 in St. Louis he has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Business Administration degree from The Ohio State University. |
