Former Pennsylvania Governor Mark S. Schweiker is president and CEO of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce (GPCC), where he has led an aggressive business advocacy and economy-building effort. Prior to joining GPCC in 2003, he served as the 44th governor of Pennsylvania, following Gov. Tom Ridge, who joined the federal government to direct homeland security efforts in October 2001. During his 25 years of public service, Gov. Schweiker responded to a variety of public safety threats and incidents. As lieutenant governor, his leadership ability was demonstrated in the wake of the United Flight 93 crash on Sept. 11, 2001, and again 10 months later following the Quecreek mining accident. Gov. Schweiker led one of the most successful mine rescues in national history when he personally oversaw the 77-hour operation that saved the lives of nine coal miners trapped within the Quecreek Mine. Following the rescue, he implemented a series of new safety procedures to provide better protection for miners. Gov. Schweiker brings a wealth of security experience, insight and passion to his work with VoiceVerified. Before entering public service, Gov. Schweiker worked for Merrill Lynch and McGraw Hill and operated his own management consultancy. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Bloomsburg University and holds a master’s degree in administration from Rider University. |
