Experience
Mark was the Managing Partner and CEO of the Hampton, New Hampshire law firm Sanders & McDermott before joining Pierce Atwood in 2003. At Sanders, he was the practice manager for that firm’s Environmental and Real Estate practices.
Mark advises clients on state and federal environmental compliance and enforcement issues, soil and groundwater remediation, Superfund and water resource issues. Mark also counsels responsible parties in investigative, remedy selection, allocation, settlement, and litigation phases associated with environmental matters, and has served as chairman of PRP groups at multiparty Superfund sites.
In addition, Mark represents developers, buyers, sellers, and lenders regarding development, environmental due diligence, including environmental site assessments and audits, risk allocation, permitting and transfer of commercial real estate.
Mark is the former chair of the Remediation Subcommittee on United States Congressman Zeliff’s Superfund Task Force.
Education
Mark received his B.A. from St. John’s University (1979) and his J.D. from the Franklin Pierce Law Center (1983).
Professional Activities
He is a member of the New Hampshire Bar Association, the Rockingham County Bar Association, and the American Bar Association Section on Environment, Energy and Resources. He is also a Fellow of the New Hampshire Bar Foundation
Civic Activities
Mark is the past Secretary of the Planning Board for the Town Of Lee, NH, and the past President of the Church Council, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mark is the author of Protection of Municipal Groundwater Supplies, Housing and Hazardous Waste Contamination - Problems and Remedies, published by the American Society of Civil Engineers. He was an Editorial Consultant on "Managing Superfund's Impact: A First-Aid Kit," published by the International City/County Management Association. He is the author of the "Buying Commercial Real Estate? Beware of the Environmental Assessment" and "Oil Cleanup - ODD, FOD and MOD Can Help You." His environmental lectures include "Superfund: Strategic Advice for Local Officials, Allocations of Responsibility at Municipal Superfund Sites," for the International City/County Management Association, "Buying, Selling, Managing Contaminated Properties; General Considerations in the Purchase and Sale of Contaminated Real Estate," for the New Hampshire Bar Association, "Water, Wetlands and the Role of Local Government" for the New Hampshire Municipal Association, "Environmental Issues in Property Development," for the National Business Institute and Brownfields Transactions for the 2004 ABA Section on Environment, Energy and Resources’ 12th Section Fall Meeting in San Antonio, TX.

Mark is named among the Lawyers’ Lawyers in Environmental Law by New Hampshire Editions Magazine. Mark is listed in the 2007 edition of Woodward/White’s The Best Lawyers in America for Environmental Law; and in New Hampshire Magazine’s 2006 list of NH’s Top Attorneys.
