Mark Christiansen has developed a unique mix of legal practice areas within the energy industry since 1980, with substantial experience and involvement in both litigation and transactional matters, including: The defense of statewide, multistate and nationwide class action energy lawsuits; the representation of energy clients of every size in lawsuits of virtually every size, ranging from small and routine lawsuits over operational disputes, to complex commercial cases involving issues of first impression with significant potential exposure; energy contractual and transactional projects involving the exploration, production and marketing sectors of the industry; and counseling clients as to the application of statutory and regulatory law, and case law, to their operations and activities. He is a member of the Executive Committee for the Board of Trustees of the Denver-based Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation. Mark also serves on the Executive Committee for the Board of Trustees of the Dallas-based Center for American and International Law. He is a Legal Committee Chair for both of Oklahoma’s oil and gas industry associations. Since 1997, Mark has been listed in Best Lawyers in America under the practice area of Natural Resources/Oil and Gas Law. He was recently listed in the inaugural edition of Oklahoma Super Lawyers on the list of the Top 50 lawyers in the State of Oklahoma, and on the list of Oklahoma Super Lawyers in the area of Energy & Natural Resources Law. He was also included in the recent inaugural Chambers USA Directory listing of leading Oklahoma attorneys in the area of Energy and Natural Resources law. Mark has been a speaker or program chair/moderator at over 100 energy law and energy litigation programs in the states of Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and Washington, D.C. (see attached Expanded Profile). Since 1996, Mark has been a member of the Board of Editors for The Oil and Gas Reporter (published by Matthew Bender/Lexis). From 1985 to the present, Mark has served as lead editor and co-author of annual reports of case law developments in the United States in the area of energy law for the Year in Review publication of the American Bar Association’s Section of Environment, Energy and Resources Law.
