Mr. Buthman, who was named to his current position in 2003, has held positions of increasing responsibility in finance and strategic planning since joining Kimberly-Clark in 1982. During his 20 years with K-C, he has been involved in a number of acquisitions and divestitures as the company changed its business profile to focus on its three core businesses: Personal Care, Consumer Tissue and Business-to-Business. Most notably, Mr. Buthman was a member of a three-person team that coordinated the integration of Kimberly-Clark and Scott Paper operations following the 1995 merger.
Among his recent achievements is the reengineering of the global finance department to provide higher levels of support to K-C's business teams at lower cost. As part of this effort, Buthman is leading the implementation of a new worldwide business planning process that will ultimately integrate the company's strategic planning, budgeting and performance measurement activities.
In addition, he has championed K-C's SAP financial information systems upgrade in North America - part of the largest systems investment in the company's history - to improve the effectiveness of its back office operations.
After earning a bachelor's degree in finance at the University of Iowa, Mr. Buthman joined Kimberly-Clark as a Financial Associate in Corporate Accounting and Procedures and Controls in Neenah, Wis. In 1983, he became a Cost Analyst at the company's Memphis, Tenn. mill.
In 1984, Mr. Buthman returned to Wisconsin to become a Project Analyst supporting the U.S. Consumer Business units and in 1985 joined the International Operations group as Manager of Capital Control.
From 1988 to 1992, Mr. Buthman served at the corporation's world headquarters as Strategic Analyst and Financial Manager of a start-up company, K-C Computer Services, Inc. In 1992, he was named Senior Strategic Analyst and appointed as Director - Corporate Strategic Analysis in 1993.
In 1995, Mr. Buthman briefly served as Director of Business Analysis for K-C's North American Infant and Child Care businesses in Neenah before becoming involved with the Kimberly-Clark/Scott merger activities. During this time, he was responsible for the sale of two tissue manufacturing facilities and the Scott wet wipes business. In 1996, he took over responsibility for the company's pilot tissue manufacturing facility in Neenah before moving back to Dallas to assume the position of Vice President of Strategic Planning and Analysis in 1997. In 2001, Mark was named Vice President - Finance with expanded responsibilities for Asia Pacific and Latin America.
Mark, his wife Tammy and their three children reside in the Dallas area. |
