As corporate vice president for the Communications Sector at Microsoft Corp., Maria Martinez leads the sales, marketing and development of Microsoft®solutions and services for telecommunications, hosting, and media and entertainment companies. The Communications Sector works with service and content providers around the globe, addressing the specific needs of wireline and wireless telecommunications companies, cable operators, hosting service providers, and media and entertainment organizations.
Under Martinez, the Communications Sector has become a strategic industry partner to communications companies, providing innovative, software-based solutions and services that help organizations increase productivity and efficiency, create differentiated offerings, enhance the user experience, and, ultimately, drive new revenue streams.
A communications industry veteran, Martinez has more than 20 years of experience with telecommunications and software. She has managed businesses that transformed emerging technologies into market-leading commercial products.
Before joining Microsoft, Martinez served as CEO of software vendor Embrace Networks Inc., where she led the creation of the company’s technical strategy, launched the company’s first software platform and developed its customer base.
Before working at Embrace, Martinez was a vice president and general manager at Motorola Inc., where she ran the Internet Connectivity Solutions Division and the Digital Cellular Infrastructure Division. Under Martinez’s leadership, Motorola launched the first CDMA commercial system in the world and established software as a significant source of revenue for the company’s infrastructure business.
Martinez also spent 12 years at Bell Laboratories in a variety of management and engineering roles. Of note are her leadership role in the development of UNIX systems for symmetric multiprocessing and high availability, and her development work and patent for disk storage systems. She has received several process and quality awards.
Martinez has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Puerto Rico and a master’s degree in computer engineering from Ohio State University. |
