Meg represents employers in all aspects of employment law, including discrimination and harassment, wrongful discharge, employment policies and handbooks, drug testing, employee benefits, and union-management disputes. She also counsels independent schools and colleges on general school law, employment and student rights and responsibilities. She serves as general counsel to the Maine Principals' Association, which oversees the state interscholastic activities, including invitational athletic tournaments, as well as music, drama, debate and speech and science competitions. Much of Meg’s activity in recent years has been focused in the areas of sexual harassment, disability discrimination (ADA) and family medical leave (FMLA). She frequently conducts worksite training programs on sexual harassment prevention for supervisors and employees and is often requested by management to conduct investigations of internal sexual harassment complaints. She regularly represents businesses and public accommodations in connection with disability access issues. Meg has extensive experience before the Maine Human Rights Commission (MHRC) and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and in state and federal courts on employment matters. She also practices before the National Labor Relations Board, the Maine Labor Relations Board, and the Maine Unemployment Compensation Commission. In addition, Meg has extensive experience in state and federal court in employment discrimination and other labor and employment cases. Practicing since 1983, Meg has been with Pierce Atwood since 1987. From 1993 to 1995 Meg served as the firm’s Human Resources Partner, responsible for policy oversight, legal counseling, and strategic planning within the law firm. She is currently chair of the firm's Associate Committee, overseeing the development, performance and progression to partnership of the firm's associates. |
