Dr. Hamburg is the former Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), serving as principal policy advisor to Secretary of HHS Donna E. Shalala from 1997 to 2001. In addition, Dr. Hamburg served as the Commissioner of Health for the City of New York from 1991 to 1997, where she designed and implemented an internationally recognized tuberculosis control program, developed initiatives that raised childhood immunization rates to record levels, and created the first public health bio-terrorism preparedness program in the nation. From 1988-1990, Dr. Hamburg held positions with National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health, and from 1986-1988, she was Special Assistant to the Director, Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, U.S. Department of HHS. She has been a director of the Company since November 2003. |
