Marco Barbieri Profile :
Pres., Los Angeles - Century Media Records

Marco Barbieri Biography :

Birth Date and Place Las Vegas, Nevada on 5/5/69 First Album Ever Bought KISS Alive II in 77 (was my first rock record), the first one bought with my own money (from my first job) was Suicidal Tendencies self-titled debut in 1983. First Concert Attended KISS on Creatures Of The Night with Motley Crue (Too Fast For Love) opening. Aladdin Theatre in Las Vegas, 1983. My first club gig was seeing Hirax in 1985. Three Favorite Films Star Wars, Planet Of The Apes (original 1968) and The Empire Strikes Back are probably my all-time favorite films. Three Favorite TV Shows Desperate Housewives, Lost and The Family Guy, but I also like Still Standing, The Amazing Race, ER, American Idol, 24, Commander In Chief, American Dad, The Ultimate Fighter, Reunion, and music programs like Headbangers Ball, Metal Asylum and Uranium. Favorite Foods Italian or Mexican How I Got Started in the Music Business I've been into hard rock/metal music since 1977, when I was in 2nd grade. When I was in junior high I couldn't miss an issue of Hit Parader or Circus to read the latest on Van Halen, Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, The Scorpions, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, etc. In high school I began to get into heavier and heavier music and started getting some European mags and US fanzines, which led to writing bands and tape trading. In 1987 I went away to college (University Of The Pacific in Stockton, California). I majored in Entertainment Management and started managing a couple of Bay Area thrash bands (The Horde Of Torment and Epidemic), as well as starting No Glam Fags fanzine. Managing the bands and doing the zine gave me a reason to get to know people at the labels and as I was finishing up school an opening for a Publicist came up at Metal Blade Records and I was fortunate enough to get the job. When I Started at Century Media September 1, 1995 What I Was Doing Prior to Working at Century Media Publicity and A + R for Metal Blade Records (1991-1995) Non-Musical Interests Hanging out with my wife (Bonnie) and my son (Max), reading, watching TV, going shopping, surfing the web, and traveling. Pets None The First Thing I Do After Work Everyday Drive an hour to get home Dream Date Things I Hate The Most in the World Liars, rip-offs, backstabbers, laziness, stupidity, ignorance, posers, bandwagon jumpers, close-mindedness (especially amongst metalheads), people who are into metal for the party, the "look" or the lifestyle. Favorite Quote Just Put One Foot In Front of the Other Chris Kringle Most Surreal Rock N' Roll Moment For Ill Literature magazine (what my fanzine No Glam Fags turned into) I've interviewed many childhood idols including K.K. Downing and Tony Iommi, but the best was conducting one over breakfast with Bruce Dickinson; promoting artists I enjoyed in my youth like Armored Saint, King Diamond, Exodus, Fates Warning, Trouble; working for Brian Slagel and Karl Walterbach (Metal Blade and Noise Records' owners -hey, if you would have told me this between 1984-1986 you'd understand as those labels (as well as Combat and Megaforce) ruled my life); and I've been able to meet people like Gene Simmons, Steve Harris, Ozzy Osbourne and Jon Bon Jovi. I even shared our home for more than a year with Jon Bon Jovis younger brother, Matt. Bands Who Will Soon Rule the Planet (I've always thought this question was too bold but I guess I'm just too literal) Some current non-Century Family faves include Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine, Beyond The Embrace, Spiritual Beggars, Sinai Beach, Grand Magus, Atreyu, Eighteen Visions, Within Temptation, Municipal Waste, COC, Callenish Circle, Opeth, Katatonia, My Dying Bride, Firebird, Unearth, Witchcraft, The Showdown, The Darkness, Still Remains, The Black Dahlia Murder, As I Lay Dying, Dragonlord, Dream Theater, Leaves Eyes, Danko Jones, and The Autumn Offering. Personal Rantings Besides that, I'd say I've been pretty lucky in this business, although it has been nothing but long hours of constant work. I love metal - it has been the soundtrack to my life. I am just trying to do my part to support heavy metal and to realize certain bands' dreams and to give people the same enjoyment I received growing up from bands (live and on record). Current Playlist These are the first 10 rock albums I owned (purchased between 1977-79):

KISS - Alive II

KISS - Kiss

KISS - Destroyer

KISS - Alive

TED NUGENT - Weekend Warriors

ANGEL - White Heat

AEROSMITH - Greatest Hits
