Maoyi Huang is a Postdoctoral Research Associate of the Department of Global Ecology at the Carnegie Institution of Washington. She holds a Ph.D. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. Her work involves the modeling of carbon cycle processes in the context of land-use and climate change with coupled carbon-climate-satellite modeling approaches. Two of her focus areas are Amazon and Hawaii. For the study in Amazonia, she is developing an ecosystem model and applying it to investigate the impacts of deforestation and selective logging on carbon, water, and energy budgets of the tropical forest in Amazon, and eventually on the global climate through land-atmosphere interactions by coupling the ecosystem model into a General Circulation Model (GCM) coupled with the Simple Biosphere (SIB) land surface model. For the study in Hawaii, she is developing software to synthesize the measurements from eddy-covariance flux towers and other ground-based instruments. Those measurements will be combined with remote sensing measurements and fed into ecosystem, hydrological and climate models to study the impacts of invasive species on ecology, hydrology, and regional climate on the Hawaiian Islands. |
