Practice

Lizabeth L. Burrell is counsel in the Firm’s International Corporate Department. With twenty-five years of experience as a lawyer in New York City, Ms. Burrell’s expertise in maritime litigation and arbitration and commercial maritime matters includes charter disputes, Carriage of Goods by Sea Act, drafting charter agreements for specialized trades, arrest and attachment of vessels, cargo, bunkers and bank accounts, marine insurance, supplier claims, shipyard disputes, foreclosure of ship mortgages and drafting bills of lading.

Other areas of Ms. Burrell’s practice are in state and federal appellate litigation, commercial litigation, arbitration and advice concerning international and domestic sales and purchase agreements, particularly oil trading. She has experience in dispute resolution involving the Uniform Commercial Code, the Federal Arbitration Act, the Convention on Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards, and RICO.

Ms. Burrell is the first woman to hold the position of President of the Maritime Law Association of the United States. She is admitted to practice in the state of New York and before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
