Dr. Liang joined MetaMorphix, Inc. in 1997 and currentlydirects the basic research group. As the Company’s Director of Molecular Biology Discovery, projects under his management include research that leads to a clearer understanding of GDF biology and gene regulation. Dr. Liang manages both internal and external Myostatin research programs, which includes the identification and determination of the molecular action of Myostatin and the implementation of proof-of-concept studies. He is also responsible for coordinating molecular biology support services and for overseeing the development of bioassays for all research programs.
From 1994 to 1997, Dr. Liang was a Senior Staff Fellow at the National Institutes of Health. While performing research in the reproductive biology field, he successfully cloned genes that encode proteins involved in sperm-egg interactions and identified a germ cell-specific transcription factor critical to the oogenesis process. Dr. Liang received a B.S. from Tufts University and a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Virginia. He is a recipient of the 1996 NIH Fellows Award for Research Excellence.
