Dr. Rivera was named chief resident of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Nassau County Medical Center (East Meadow, NY) and completed a clinical fellowship in pain rehabilitation prior to receiving her board certification in 1987.
Prior to joining Kessler in 1986, Dr. Rivera served as a medical health officer in the Philippine Ministry of Health and as a volunteer physician with L'AMIE , an international organization that provides medical aid for children. She was an instructor in the department of physiology at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and an assistant professor in clinical physical medicine and rehabilitation at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She now continues to train medical students at the UMDNJ-NJ Medical School.
Dr. Rivera, who began her Kessler career as a staff physiatrist, has contributed to the growth of several programs, including brain injury, pain management, and the wheelchair clinic. As Clinical Chief of Stroke Services at Kessler's Saddle Brook facility, Dr. Rivera provides comprehensive care to stoke patients, including the diagnosis and management of swallowing disorders.
Dr. Rivera has authored or co-authored articles, abstracts and a book syllabus on various rehabilitation topics and has lectured extensively. She is active in a number of state and national organizations and is on the stroke council of the American Heart Association. |
