Leigh Hallisey's journey to FableVision began around the dawn of the new millennium (2000, but that doesn't sound quite as dramatic) when she was at Boston University. From the first day she walked into FableVision's office in Watertown, and was surrounded by toys, vinyl furniture, crayons, a real live dog, and the most energized, blissful group of people she had ever met, she vowed that someday she would be part of that world. And so the seven-year pestering process began. It was a beautiful courtship, involving, among other things, a trip to New York, tattoos, and a blue-haired girl named Lia, and Leigh joined the FableVision team in August 2007 as the Director of Marketing/Creative Strategist. Prior to joining FableVision, Leigh was a lecturer in the Film and Television Department of Boston University's College of Communication where she taught classes on television and popular culture. She frequently speaks to the media as Pop Culture Expert on such heavy-hitting issues as Britney's divorce(s) and Lindsay's, well, where do you start? And how does one become qualified to teach and speak with authority on popular culture? By having a Master's degree in pop culture, of course, which Leigh holds from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. A Massachusetts native, Leigh was shocked to be welcomed on her arrival to the Midwest by a tractor-pulling competition and a lot of general hotness and flatness. Leigh's academic areas of interest, first honed at her undergraduate, Wellesley College, include representations of race and gender (and do they know gender at Wellesley!). At Boston University, Leigh was the co-founder of The LIA Project, a media company focused on engaging girls in science and technology using popular culture and media to break down stereotypes and create positive role models. And who might BU's media partner on the project have been? Say it with me: FableVision. It's all starting to make sense now. Never one to be influenced by media, Leigh lives with her husband Pete, whom she was told she would love because he "looked like Dylan Walsh from '90210.'" (It was 1992, people, trust me, this was a big deal.) Lila is their 2-year-old daughter whose curiosity about the world, like what the result of a metal Hello Kitty fork hitting a glass coffee table might sound like (sounds like it's time to get a new table) constantly inspires her to see the world in a new way and make it a kinder, more inclusive, most inspiring place.
