A fourth generation grower, Lane DeVries was born in the Netherlands to a family with a long tradition of growing flowers. He received his B.S. degree in Horticulture in Holland and then immigrated to the US in 1983 after his family sold their farm in Holland. Securing a job at Sun Valley, (with a former owner), Lane came to Arcata and built the first Dutch Glass greenhouse. Accomplishing this task, he soon became the greenhouse manager and in 1988 was promoted to General Manager. Three years later, in 1991 he joined with two other Dutch partners, Jacob Rooyakkers and Jan van der Wereld, in a friendly purchase of Sun Valley. Lane and the partners have since built Sun Valley to be a prominent player in the floral business nationally. Very much a hands-on President and CEO, Lane holds a passion for his company. He wholeheartedly leads the Sun Valley team in producing the finest cut flowers available.

Lane is active in several organizations, including president of Arcata Rotary Club 1996-97, and is presently a Commissioner on the California Cut Flower Commission.

He resides in Arcata, CA, with his wife Kathryn and two children.
