Lee Schavrien is vice president of regulatory affairs for San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) and Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) Sempra Energy’s California regulated utilities. Sempra Energy is a San Diego-based Fortune 500 energy services holding company whose subsidiaries provide electricity, natural gas and value-added products and services.
SDG&E is a regulated public utility that provides service to 3.3 million consumers through 1.3 million electric meters and more than 800,000 gas meters in San Diego and southern Orange counties.
SoCalGas is the nation’s largest natural gas distribution utility serving 19.5 million consumers through 5.5 million gas meters.
In his current position, Schavrien is responsible for all regulatory proceedings before the California Public Utilities Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on behalf of SDG&E and SoCalGas. Over the past 26 years, Schavrien has headed up all of SDG&E’s general rate cases as well as the merger of Enova and Pacific Enterprises. Schavrien was the co-author of the regulatory groundbreaking Performance Based Ratemaking put in place almost 10 years ago for all of SDG&E’s revenues.
Schavrien currently serves on the board of the San Diego Arthritis Foundation and Poway Wrestling Foundation. He is also a member of the Poway Unified School District Committees, past board member of the San Diego Imperial Kids’ Wrestling Association and past president and board member of the Carmel Mountain Ranch Little League.
