BACKGROUND: Lee, a shareholder of the firm, is almost a native of Florida, having moved to Dade City, Florida from Massachusetts at the age of six years. He graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature. For the next six years, he served in the Navy flying various aircraft, including helicopters aboard carriers in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam conflict. After fulfilling his military commitment for the Naval Aviation program, he attended Vanderbilt University College of Law where he was Treaty, Case and Note Editor for the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law. After receiving his Juris Doctorate in 1973, he returned to Florida to practice. He and his wife, Marilynn, have eight children and live in Orlando. EXPERIENCE: Lee began his legal career in the real property area, but within a few years developed a practice of commercial, construction, and surety litigation and general business law. After several years, he decided to emphasize his business practice. His varied background serves him well in counseling his business clients, in negotiating commercial transactions, and in the thorough preparation of legal documents. These experiences also enable Lee to successfully mediate business and transactional disputes. He has served as a director of a publicly-held software company and during his career has represented both privately and publicly-owned companies. His practice includes negotiating software development agreements and licensing arrangements for both vendors and users. Lee has assisted his clients in beginning transnational business operations and engaging in international transactions by assisting in the formation of foreign corporations and branches as well as preparing contracts for the sale and distribution of products and services overseas. He has represented clients doing business in the Far East, Australia, and Europe. His practice includes trademark and copyright prosecution and he is a member of the GrayRobinson Technology Team, which serves the special needs of technology companies. He has considerable experience in drafting contracts involving proprietary technology, trade secrets, copyrights, and trademarks, and has handled the purchases and sales of businesses and loan closings involving millions of dollars. Lee prevailed in a landmark case concerning real estate taxation decided by the Florida Supreme Court. PROFESSIONAL: Lee is an active participant in legal organizations. In 2000, he was the recipient of the Orange County Bar Association's Professionalism Award. Lee has been the delegate of the Orange County Bar Association to the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association since 1996. The Orange County Bar Association is a nonprofit corporation of over 2,800 attorney members practicing in Central Florida. In 1993 and 1994, he served as President of the Orange County Bar Association, having served the previous year as Vice President/President-Elect. In 2003, Lee received the prestigious statewide Outstanding Past President Award from the Florida Council of Bar Association Presidents. He has served as Chairman of the Orange County Bar Association's Corporate and Business Law Committee. He completed two three-year terms as a member of the Orange County Bar Association Executive Council, having been awarded Outstanding Executive Council Member for three of those years. In 2001, he was appointed by Governor Bush to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission. He also has been a member of the Ninth Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee and currently serves as a chairman of a Florida Bar Fee Arbitration Panel. In 1996, he was appointed President of the Orange County Bar Association Foundation, Inc., an organization dedicated to advancing public awareness of America's legal system. In 2000-2001, he was the Chairman of the Unlicensed Practice of Law Committee of The Florida Bar, a statewide committee on which he served for nine years. He has also served on The Florida Bar's Professionalism Committee. Lee has served as the newsletter editor for the Business and Commercial Law Committee of the General Practice Section of the American Bar Association. He was a member of a select committee of the Business Law Section of The Florida Bar that analyzed and re-wrote the Florida Business Corporation Act, which became effective in 1990. As a result of his work on this committee, Lee wrote and keeps updated a chapter for a practice aid book for Florida lawyers on Corporate Practice in Florida. Lee is also a Certified Circuit Mediator and enjoys assisting parties find agreeable solutions to intellectual property, business or property disputes in, or headed for, litigation. His mission is to find ways opposing parties can settle their differences and put the expense and inconvenience of litigation behind them. CIVIC: In addition to his practice and professional involvement, Lee is also active in community affairs. He served for 9 years as a member of the WMFE Board of Trustees, including service on its Executive Committee, and was the Chairman of the WMFE Community Advisory Board. Currently, Lee is a member of the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of Central Florida, and is a member and director of the Rotary Club of Orlando. He has previously served as a director of the Better Business Bureau of Central Florida and the International Visitors Council. He has also participated in the fund-raising efforts of Junior Achievement, the Winter Park Y.M.C.A., Boy Scouts, and several other local charities. He has also served as Stakeholder in the Orlando Healthy Community Initiative and is a graduate of Leadership Orlando. Lee has also spoken to area business and civic organizations about legal topics and is a volunteer Junior Achievement classroom teacher.
