Lawrence R. (Larry) Purtell serves as executive vice president and general counsel for Alcoa. In April 2002, he was appointed to the additional position of Chief Compliance Officer for the corporation. This responsibility includes not only compliance with all legal requirements, but also with the Alcoa's Values. He is also a member of Alcoa's Executive Council, the senior leadership group that provides strategic direction for the company. Larry joined Alcoa in 1997.
Before joining Alcoa, Larry had been senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary for Koch Industries, Inc., the second largest privately-held company in the U.S. Prior to that he held executive positions at McDermott International, Inc., an international provider of energy services which he joined in 1993, and Carrier Corporation, a unit of United Technologies Corporation, where he was responsible for the legal affairs of this $5 billion international designer, manufacturer and marketer of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment and services. During his 12-year career at United Technologies, he had overall legal responsibilities for mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and all securities law matters.
Earlier, he was employed as corporate counsel for the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Inc., and the New York law firm of White & Case.
He is a member of the New York State Bar Association.
Larry is a 1969 graduate of Villanova University and received his Juris Doctor degree in law from Columbia University School of Law in 1972. He was born May 2, 1947, in Quincy, Massachusetts. |
