Laurie Carafone is an attorney at Dwyer & Collora representing clients in all of the firm’s practice areas, including civil litigation and criminal defense. She joined the firm in 2004.
Ms. Carafone is a cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College, where she was named a Rufus Choate Scholar. She earned her J.D. cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School. While in law school, Ms. Carafone served as co-President of the Law School’s Public Interest Group. As a student lawyer/guardian ad-litem in the Law School's Child Advocacy Clinic, she represented abused and neglected children, and received the Bergstrom Child Welfare Law Fellowship.
Prior to joining Dwyer & Collora, LLP, she was named the 2003 Ford Outstanding Woman Law Student Scholar.

Ms. Carafone is a litigation associate specializing in complex civil and criminal defense cases in federal and state courts, and before regulatory bodies and state agencies. Her work on cases involves a wide array of federal and state subject areas including business disputes, securities law violations, auditor liability, employment, health care, conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and habeas appeals in a capital case.
Recent Cases:
Defended international investment bank in securities investigation of its conduct as a financial advisor in connection with large corporate merger; no enforcement proceedings were commenced.
Represents broker-dealer in administrative securities proceeding involving relationships with hedge funds.
As co-counsel with the American Civil Liberties Union, represented individuals challenging English-only policy at health center, resulting in conciliation agreement and consent decree with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Negotiated successful settlement with FDIC in case involving allegations of unsafe or unsound banking practices.
Negotiated successful settlement in age discrimination lawsuit.
Provide ongoing representation of death row inmate in state habeas corpus proceeding.
