Laurens Roodbol - Managing Director, Consulting Actuary AAGProfessional designations Fellow, Actuarieel Genootschap (Dutch actuarial society) Current responsibility Laurens is the managing director of the Amsterdam office of Milliman and joined the firm in 2007. He and his team carry out consulting assignments in the Netherlands and Belgium. Prior to this, he worked three years as the chief actuary for Delta Lloyd (Subsidiary of Aviva), 12 years as the responsible partner of the actuarial practice of Ernst & Young, two years as a management consultant and eight years as manager of actuarial research of PGGM (pension fund for the healthcare sector).Additional functions Since 2002, Laurens has been a board member of the Actuarial Society in the Netherlands, responsible for public relations and public affairs. Due to this function he chairs several technical committees (Solvency II, WFT, medical). Laurens is a member of a group that delivers oversight on Dutch pension funds, the so- called visitatie commissie. This oversight is prescribed by law. Experience Laurens has performed a wide range of actuarial consultancy missions and certification assignments (among them, for eight years appointed actuary of Aegon Netherlands) as well as for government, pension funds, health, life and non-life insurance companies. He specializes in risk management for pension funds and life insurance companies. As a partner of Ernst & Young, he founded and was responsible for the actuarial practice in the Netherlands as well the actuarial practices on Curacao (Dutch Antilles), Germany, and Hungary. He also acted as a non-executive for a company of actuarial secondment and a small funeral insurance company. For eight years he was a lecturer in business analysis for the Actuarieel Instituut. He is fluent in Dutch, English, and German. Before he was employed as an actuary, he worked several years in the healthcare sector, mainly as a laboratory analyst in cardiovascular surgery. Presentations and publications Due to his function at the Actuarial Society, his name appears frequently in articles in (Dutch) newspapers and professional magazines. He also speaks frequently (on average once per month) at seminars on technical, organizational, and political subjects.Education Diploma in Actuarial Science, the Actuarieel Instituut Diploma as a Mathematical Teacher (2e degree) Diploma as an analyst in Clinical Chemistry Medicine (two years). |
