Laura M. Velez-Velez is an Income Member in the Environmental and Land Use Practice Group. Prior to re-joining the firm in 2006 Mrs. Velez-Velez was the appointed Clerk of the Court for the Puerto Rico Court of Appeals.
Practice and Experience
Ms. Velez-Velez represents clients before local and federal agencies with jurisdiction over environmental and land use matters, such as the Environmental Quality Board, the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources, the Puerto Rico Planning Board, the Regulations and Permit Administration, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency. She regularly provides counseling to clients on permitting, enforcement and compliance with land use laws and regulations, environmental laws and regulations (e.g.,UST Regulations, NPDES permits, RCRA enforcement actions, ocean dredging, ocean dumping, NEPA, CERCLA enforcement actions, endangered species management plans, integrated natural resources management plans), and the environmental implications of business transactions.
Prior to joining the firm in 2003, Ms. Velez-Velez was an associate at the Corporate Department of O'Neill & Borges, San Juan, Puerto Rico. In addition, during the year 2005 and part of 2006, Ms. Velez-Velez was the appointed Clerk of the Court for the Puerto Rico Court of Appeals, where she worked prior to re-joining the firm in August 2006.
Education
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico, cum laude in 1996, and a juris doctor from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law in 1999.

Ms. Velez-Velez is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico. |
