Dr. McGrath is a graduate of St. Thomas College with a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry and an M.B.A. He also holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from New Mexico State University.

Dr. McGrath started his career at Abbott Laboratories in the Pharmaceuticals Division as a CRA in the field of antibiotics. He joined Medtronic where he spent four years working in Regulatory Affairs and Product Development supervising engineers and pilot production for new products. He also worked at Kallestad Laboratories in Product Development, before rejoining Abbott Laboratories where he spent four years in Scientific Affairs, Business Strategy and Marketing for physiological and infectious diseases products.

Dr. McGrath began his General Management career in l982 working initially for Immuno Nuclear Corporation, and then on to Cooper Technicon. In January l976 he started his own company, McGrath & Associates where he provides general management, marketing, and retained executive search services to health care companies primarily focused in diagnostics, medical devices, and functionally-related genomics such as genotyping.

Dr. McGrath also is the founder and publisher of a Newsletter (IVD News) that tracks trends in new product development in all of the aforementioned fields as well as conducting customized due diligence studies in these area for a broad array of domestic and international clients.

For over 25 years Dr. McGrath has worked in a collegial and active capacity directing several senior level retained searches, primarily for CEOs, CSOs, and Engineering Directors in diagnostic and medical device companies among with include BIOCIRCUITS, Cholestech, Heartport, Cardima, Myriad Genetics Laboratories, Oncogenetics, LipoMatrix, CHIRON Diagnostics, Calypte Biomedical, ABAXIS, Endonetics (formerly Akos Biomedical), diaDexus, Bio-Rad Laboratories, PROLINX, Accumetrics, PILOT Cardiovascular Systems (now C.R. Bard), EPOCH Biosciences, Timi3 Systems, and SEQUENOM, Inc.

Dr. McGrath is the Current chairman of the Abbott Diagnostics Division Alumni organization. He has published in the Journal of Clinical Pathology, Clinical Chemistry News, Harvard Business Review, and received two Marketing Achievement awards at Abbott Laboratories.
