Mr. Simpson is a Policy Director in Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck’s Washington, D.C., office. He specializes in helping clients take advantage of new market opportunities, manage difficult business and government relations issues, identify sources of capital, eliminate market barriers and capture economic benefits. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Simpson was the founder, president and CEO of Morgan Meguire, a lobbying and public policy firm focused on energy and environmental issues. Before founding Morgan Meguire, Mr. Simpson was the senior policy advisor on domestic and international energy matters to the U.S. Secretary of Energy and he served as Associate Deputy Secretary for Energy Programs. During his tenure at the Department of Energy (DOE), the administration achieved important improvements in the nation’s energy policy, including lifting the ban on the export of crude oil from Alaska’s North Slope, selling the Elk Hills Naval Petroleum Reserve and significantly raising the efficiency of refrigeration manufactured in the U.S. Mr. Simpson’s distinguished career also includes the following achievements and positions: vice chairman, Energy Resources Board, DOE; federal liaison to the Northwest Comprehensive Regional Review Board, DOE; staff director for DOE Deputy Secretaries Charles Curtis and Bill White; vice president, Coastal Corporation, a Houston-based energy company; chairman, State Relations Committee, Interstate Natural Gas Association of America; patron, Energy Council; advisory board member, Center for Legislative Energy and Environmental Research; commissioner, Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission; state and local government relations director for Brown and Root, one of the largest construction companies in the world; energy coordinator, Washington, D.C.
