Kristen E. Hazel is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in its Chicago office. As a member of the Firm’s Tax Department, Kristen concentrates on U.S. and international aspects of federal tax matters with a focus on international acquisitions and joint ventures, and structuring and implementing partnership and limited liability company transactions.
Kristen is a member of the bar of the State of Illinois and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the U.S. Tax Court. She is a member of the American Bar Association and its Committee on Partnerships and has served on the Illinois State Bar Association’s Committee on Legal Education, Admission and Competence. In addition, Kristen chaired the Chicago Bar Association Federal Tax Committee’s International Tax Subcommittee.
Kristen has authored articles on various topics involving pass-through entities, including application of the passive activity loss rules, working with limited liability companies, working with the intangibles amortization rules and partnership exit strategies. She served a two-year clerkship with Justice Daniel J. McNamara of the Illinois Appellate Court.
