Kirk Bailey was appointed to the position of executive vice president, Oil Sands, in 2007. His primary role is to lead Suncor's oil sands operation through its next phase of growth to increase production to between 500,000 and 550,000 barrels per day in 2010 to 2012 while ensuring continual improvements in safety, sustainability and competitiveness.
Originally from Welland, Ontario, Kirk’s career at Suncor began in 1989 in the downstream operations area of the company. Since then, Kirk has held a variety of positions in Sarnia, Toronto and Fort McMurray providing leadership in the areas of organizational effectiveness, automation strategies and crude/product supply. For four years, he put his experience in refinery operations management into practice as vice president, Sarnia refinery. His most recent positions were as vice president, strategic planning and development, and senior vice president mining and extraction operations and growth at oil sands.
Kirk is a director of the Alberta Chamber of Resources, a member of the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineering, past chair, major gifts, for the Bluewater Health Foundation State of the Heart campaign, past chair of the Family Counseling Centre in Sarnia and is an active supporter of the Fort McMurray Competitive Ski Society.
Kirk holds a bachelor of engineering (chemical) degree and master of engineering (chemical) degree, both from McMaster University.
He and his wife, Sheila, have three children and reside in Fort McMurray, Alberta
