Dr. Moore leads solar concentrator optical design and analysis. Dr. Moore is also responsible for analysis, design, and testing of the high-efficiency heat exchanger to be used in Cool Earth Solar's photovoltaic receiver; he is a co-inventor on Cool Earth Solar's photovoltaic receiver patent. Prior to joining Cool Earth Solar, Dr. Moore was a senior staff member in the Fluids and Thermophysics Department at Northrop Grumman Space Technology (NGST), where he authored a directed energy weapon system simulation called Horus. Horus is being used widely both within NGST and at government facilities to predict the performance of potential laser weapon systems and their impact on the future battlefield. Dr. Moore has extensive experience in the field of modeling and simulation: as a user of codes, as an author of codes, and as the leader of the modeling & analysis group at a small aerospace research company, Advanced Projects Research, Inc. (APRI), where Dr. Moore was responsible for maintenance and further development of APRI's one-dimensional gas-dynamics code for pulse detonation engine (PDE) performance prediction, PDWE1D. He later supervised further development of PDWE1D by others in his group. Dr. Moore's expertise in modeling and simulation is complemented by his general interdisciplinary scientific and technical experience. This ranges from development of optimization routines for solving the scheduling problem utilizing evolutionary computation to performing experimental studies on the vulnerability of rocket fuzes to laser irradiation. He has also done research, both theoretical and experimental, on laser tracking algorithms, and he is responsible for the abort mode logic that ensures the safe shut-down of NGST's Tactical High Energy Laser (THEL) weapon system in the event of a failure. Dr. Moore has personally written or overseen those writing real-time controllers for several hardware systems, including a laser diagnostic device (LITA), a small turbofan engine, and a Pulse Detonation Engine (PDE) experimental apparatus. He was also in charge of reduction of PDE test data at APRI, as well as all gas-dynamic design and analysis activities. |
