Matter Management Implementation
Managed the legal division-wide implementation of a web-based matter management system for a Fortune 25 pharmaceutical corporation. The implementation involved the conversion of multiple legacy systems and ensuring that the new business processes incorporated all legacy data and system requirements into the new integrated solution. Kevin directed the overall project timeline and ensured all deadlines were met and issues were identified and resolved in a timely manner. He managed the full system implementation life cycle including system and process design, development of standardized business processes, assisting with data conversion, creating test plans and conducting user acceptance testing, creating training documentation, and rolling out the system by conducting end user training.
Managed a large petroleum corporation's legal department conversion from a client/server matter management system to a web-based solution. Created and carried out data conversion testing and facilitated the core team's system testing. Kevin worked with the legal department members to develop improved business processes and detailed guidelines to leverage the web-based capabilities of the new system. He developed guidelines for outside counsel collaboration in the new system and created system test documents for a pilot group of outside counsel attorneys. Kevin conducted the internal and external pilot testing and participated in the final system rollout training for the legal department and the target law firms. He managed the testing of the system's electronic billing module and its integration with the corporate accounts payable system.
Document Management Implementation
Led the integration of an existing matter management system with a new document management solution, focusing on providing a single repository for the corporation's contracts and agreements. Kevin's led a team whose tasks included end user requirements gathering, planning and executing the migration of legacy documents from multiple systems, conducting integration testing, developing training documentation, and conducting end-user training for the combined matter and document management solution.
Electronic Billing Implementation
Planned and managed the implementation of a web-based electronic billing system for a global energy corporation. The project included the design of new business processes related to both electronic and manual invoices, as well as designing an integration of the matter management system so data could be passed through an XML feed to the eBIlling system. Kevin assisted the client in defining business rules to enforce the Law Department Billing Requirements, conducting focus group sessions to gain practice group input on the system and desired functionality, and training the users on the system and new processes.
Cost Management Project
Conducted a legal spending analysis to identify, analyze, and present recommendations focused on reducing outside counsel spending, as part of a Fortune 25 pharmaceutical corporation's Legal Division cost savings initiative. Kevin worked with a sample of the client's law firms to gather and historical billing information and created a database for analysis. He performed detailed analyses that highlighted opportunities for cost savings and mapped these analyses to industry benchmarks. As of a result of the analysis, the team launched a series of cost management initiatives related to both internal and external cost reduction.
