Kevin has more than 10 years of experience serving the healthcare and higher education marketplace as both an administrator and a management consultant. His focus is on helping organizations improve their operational efficiency enhance research compliance and prepare strategies capable of upgrading financial performance.

Kevin has experience in managing engagements in research compliance clinical trials billing practices research financial modeling organizational assessment business process redesign cost reduction fund raising economic impact compensation program design and strategic planning/ development.

Representative examples of Kevin's engagement experience include:

Led recent engagement for a client that sought to create a new clinical research infrastructure separate from other pre-award research operations intended to provide comprehensive services to the clinical research programs of this institution. The focus of the project was to establish the financial plan operating model work flows policies and essential tools and templates for this new office charged with providing clinical research initiation services.

Managed an engagement at a major academic medical center and teaching hospital where he is helping assess compliance risk with clinical trials billing processes including a review of each component included in the financial management of a clinical trial. A key focus of the engagement is the preparation of a comprehensive plan for how the health system can automate the registration process so that research costs are segregated from usual care costs at the point of care and throughout the charge capture process.

Managed a detailed review of the research compliance environment of a community-based hospital system with multiple clinic locations. The team reviewed the overall management of clinical trials and evaluated the organization's needs for infrastructure policies roles and responsibilities and a clinical research strategy.

Led a comprehensive assessment of clinical research policies practices infrastructure and organization for a large multi-hospital system. The project team helped identify challenges and provided recommendations on best practices for structuring their Office of Research and the support mechanisms that are associated including IRBs grants accounting trials management technologies and the pre-award/trial approval processes.

Performed a detailed review of principal financial research compliance practices at a top-twenty research university. The university has been on an aggressive 10-year growth trajectory in its research enterprise. Given this growth executive leadership at the university asked Huron to assess whether or not the compliance infrastructure policies procedures and activities were being appropriately managed and implemented.

Developed a detailed financial model for a medium-sized children's hospital. The model was used to help forecast the financial impact of a new research facility on space allocations organizational revenues and the research expansion. The hospital's CFO sought the model as a tool for preparing the capital budget.

Led the preparation of a comprehensive report on effort reporting practices at a medium sized public research university and its affiliated academic medical center. The assessment included a review of how faculty were reporting salary and certifying effort during the summer months on federally sponsored research grants.

Managed the study of a major public research university's financial readiness. The President of this institution sought Huron's services to determine whether or not the university had adequate resources for fulfilling his ambitious growth plan. This project included an assessment of financial capacity and a review of several revenue drivers at the institutions to ensure that maximum financial potential was being reached. Included in the project deliverables was a risk assessment and planning methodology.

Worked with a major public research university to develop and author a report describing how State and University policies may be modified so that the institution could not only grow its research enterprise but enhance its economic impact on the region. This work called for a diagnostic review of several functional areas within the institution to identify situations where policies regulatory pressures or statutes adversely influenced the institution's ability to attract top talent research funding and/or initiate technology transfer in the region.
