Kevin Bagley joined the firm in May 1998. His experience in structuring business transactions, particularly tax sensitive arrangements, complements the many other facets of the firm's business practice. Since joining the firm, Kevin has enthusiastically supported the firm's goal of becoming the premier business, tax and transaction firm in San Diego.
The California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization has certified Kevin as a specialist in Taxation Law. He uses an in-depth knowledge of the tax laws to supplement his business practice and strives to explain complex business and tax issues in nonlegal, "user-friendly" language. As one of the few lawyers in San Diego who has been fully initiated into the mysteries of partnership tax, he is particularly comfortable with issues, both tax and non-tax, involving partnerships and limited liability companies. He has also shared his experience in the subject with the legal community by teaching the Partnership Taxation course for the graduate tax program at the University of San Diego School of Law from 1989 to 1999, and by continuing to lecture before a variety of business, accounting and legal audiences.
Kevin is known in the legal community as a partnership and tax expert. Kevin is committed to giving his clients close, personal attention and believes in being immediately accessible to them. These two elements are what make Kevin's business relationships so effective.
In addition to providing transactional and tax law services, Kevin uses his nearly 6 years as an attorney for the Chief Counsel's Office of the Internal Revenue Service and his many years in private practice as a tax advocate to effectively represent clients before federal, state and local taxing authorities. He has represented businesses, estates and individuals at all levels, from the initiation of audit or enforcement procedures through litigation. His knowledge of the inner workings of the IRS and his personal relationships with IRS and Franchise Tax Board personnel give him the ability to find the "right" person inside the government with a minimum of time and expense. Kevin also provides estate planning services for his business clients, particularly in the area of wealth transfer and business succession.
A native of San Diego County, he graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1973 and obtained his law degree from Boston University Law School in 1976. Subsequent to transferring to San Diego's local District Counsel office after a 2 year stint with the IRS in Washington, D.C., Kevin obtained an LL.M. in taxation from the University of San Diego Law School. |
