Ken Bergquist is a Vice President at Mobius Security Group and is the Senior Advisor on counterterrorism and emergency preparedness. Ken has over 30 years of experience in senior policy positions with the Federal Government; military service in Special Operations and Counterterrorism; and, in the private sector in maritime and port security. Ken graduated from Stanford University and has a law degree, with honors, from the University of Texas. His combined military and federal service includes two years of combat duty in Vietnam and Cambodia as a highly decorated Infantry officer, and later service as an intelligence and paramilitary officer with the CIA.His government career includes serving as:Assistant Secretary of the Navy Associate Coordinator for Counterterrorism at the State Department Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the United States Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army Chief Counsel and Staff Director of the Veteran’s Affairs Committee of the United States Senate In 2001, at the request of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Ken was recalled to active duty as a Brigadier General to serve as the first President of the Joint Special Operations University. As a result of the terrorist attack on the United States on September 11, 2001, he was selected as the Special Operations Staff Director at United States CENTCOM for Operation ‘Enduring Freedom.’ In this position he was responsible for managing all Special Operations efforts in the war in Afghanistan and was responsible for interagency coordination and daily briefings to Secretary Rumsfeld.Prior to his recall to active duty, Ken worked as a counterterrorism and security technology consultant to the cruise line industry and later as the Vice President for Operations and General Counsel for a leading transportation security technology company. He has been published in national security and defense journals and is a frequent featured speaker. Ken concurrently serves as the Academic Dean of the non-profit Maritime Security Institute, which provides training to students from US and foreign governments and industries. |
