Kenneth Baker became a member of the House of Lords in June 1997. He has previously served in the House of Commons as Secretary of State for the Home Office, Secretary of State for Education and Science, Secretary of State for the Environment, and Minister of State for Industry and Information Technology. Lord Baker is a non-executive director of Virtual Orchestra Ltd, Inter-Hopper Ltd (Chairman), and The Belmont Press [London] Ltd (Chairman). He is Chairman of the Lehman Brothers Merchant Banking European Advisory Council. He is also an advisor to ICL plc and a member of the European Advisory Boards of The Blackstone Group and SCT Corp. He was previously a non-executive director of Hanson plc, Millennium Chemicals Inc., and Wavetek Wandel Goltermann Inc. Lord Baker was educated at St. Paul's and Magdalen College, Oxford, and served as a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery. |
