Ken Kal enters his 12th season at the Red Wings' radio play-by-play announcer on the team's flagship station, AM 1270, the Sports Station.
Before joining the Red Wings, Kal spent 11years as the play-by-play announcer for Ann Arbor radio stations, WAAM and WTKA, broadcasting men's hockey team at the University of Michigan. During that time, he was also a reporter at the stations, covering the Red Wings.
Born and raised in Detroit, Kal began his radio career immediately after graduating from Wayne State University in 1979. His first job was at WAAM, handling sports and working as a disc jockey.
In addition to his current radio responsibilities with the Wings, he represents the team in the community, often visiting area schools and business groups, hosting team events and playing on the Wings' charity softball team. Kal is a contributing columnist for the Wings' official magazine Inside Hockeytown.'
