Ken is the chief executive officer for three of the organizations within Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems Healthcare Charities, Affiliated Healthcare Systems (AHS) and Rosscare. In his role as executive vice president of EMHS, Ken participates at the senior management level in all system activities. In concrete terms, this means Ken spends his days working on management issues for Healthcare Charities, AHS, Rosscare, and EMHS as well as captaining exciting projects such as Dirigo Pines Retirement Community and the Brewer Professional Center development.
The road to here
Some who know Ken best say his love of fishing is what brought him to Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC) more than 30 years ago, a perfect arrangement if you want to spend your lunch hour fly fishing for Atlantic salmon. He once caught a 12-pounder right behind the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit! After spending a year as staff auditor for Arthur Andersen & Co. in Boston, Ken returned to Bangor where he had earned his bachelors degree in Accounting from Husson. He was hired on at EMMC as a staff accountant, quickly rising to chief accountant. Several years later he became controller, followed two years after with a promotion to director of Fiscal Services and CFO. By 1982 Ken was named treasurer and chief financial officer for EMMC and EMHS, rising to vice president and treasurer for EMMC in 1986 and executive vice president for EMHS in 1987. In 1995, Ken stepped up into the added responsibility as president of Healthcare Charities, Rosscare and Affiliated Healthcare Systems, three organizations within EMHS. Over the years, Ken has maintained an important and influential presence on countless state and national boards and committees in addition to being active in his community. From 1986 1987, Ken served as the national chairman of the 35,000+ - member Healthcare Financial Management Association and received the Frederick C. Morgan Award for Individual Achievement in 1998.

Proudest accomplishments
Over the years Ken has designed and implemented a state-of-the-art financial management program; completed three tax exempt bond issues with A+ or better ratings and low cost financing; recruited, trained and retained an outstanding management staff; and participated in four successful fund drives at EMMC and for John Bapst Memorial High School. On the personal side, Ken and his wife have raised two children and are the overjoyed grandparents of three. Ken has been able to satisfy his fly fishing passion with fishing trips to Alaska, Montana, Quebec and Russia.

Everyday when I come to work, I’m trying to do the best I can to make EMHS an outstanding organization and to work behind the scenes to continually improve the services provided to all those we serve throughout the region. |
