Ken Hamlin Biography :

The Dallas Cowboys announced the signing of unrestricted free agent safety Ken Hamlin today. Hamlin, who spent his first four years in the NFL as a member of the Seattle Seahawks, comes to Dallas with 52 career starts in 54 NFL regular season games. He was originally selected with the 10th pick in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft out of Arkansas.

2006: Postseason: at Chicago (1/14): Tallied a postseason career-high five tackles (two solo). vs. Dallas (1/6): Posted four solo tackles. Regular Season: Named NFC Defensive Player of the Month for September. Second on the team with 96 tackles (75 solo). at Tampa Bay (12/31): Posted three solo stops and one pass defensed. vs. San Diego (12/24): Had four solo stops. vs. San Francisco (12/14): Posted seven stops (five solo). at Arizona (12/10): Had five tackles (three solo). at Denver (12/3): Led the team in tackles for the fourth time this season, this with seven (six solo), tying Leroy Hill. vs. Green Bay (11/27): Had five tackles (three solo). at San Francisco (11/19): Led the team in tackles for the third time this season, this with a career-high 12 (seven solo). vs. St. Louis (11/12): Recorded his third interception this season, eighth career, with five solo stops. vs. Oakland (11/6): His pass defensed dislodged Randy Moss from the ball in the third quarter forcing Oakland to punt. at Kansas City (10/29): Led the team with a career-high tying 11 tackles (10 solo). vs. Minnesota (10/22): Posted a season-high nine tackles (seven solo) with two passes defensed. at St. Louis (10/15): Led the team with seven solo stops and posted his second sack this season, fourth career. at Chicago (10/1): Posted three tackles (two solo). vs. NY Giants (9/24): His career-high tying two interceptions in the first quarter led to two Seahawks touchdowns to go along with four tackles (three solo). vs. Arizona (9/17): Posted a season-high eight stops (six solo), his first sack of the year, third career, that forced Kurt Warner to fumble for his fourth career forced fumble, first this season. at Detroit (9/10): Tallied six tackles (four solo).

2005: Started first six games of the season before being placed on reserve/non-football injury list on November 1 because of head injuries suffered away from the field. Totaled 26 tackles for the season. Was declared inactive (head) versus Dallas (10/23).

2004: Started all 16 games in his second season and finished third on the team with 79 tackles. Finished fourth on the team with four interceptions (10th NFC). Helped preserve a shutout and end San Francisco's (9/26) NFL-record 420-game scoring streak after intercepting a fourth-quarter pass in the end zone. Posted five tackles and a career-high two interceptions versus Buffalo (11/28). Turned in a career-high 10 tackles, including the first sack of his career to go along with three passes defensed and a forced fumble, versus Arizona (12/26). Recorded second sack in as many weeks in the season finale versus Atlanta (1/2/05). Posted two tackles and an interception in the playoff loss to St. Louis (1/8/05).

2003: Started 14-of-16 games played as a rookie earning a place on Pro Football Weekly's All-Rookie team. Finished second on the team with 96 tackles (Anthony Simmons 100) and totaled 10 passes defensed. Started all regular-season games except Pittsburgh (11/2) and at Baltimore (11/23). Did not start in the playoff game at Green Bay (1/4/04), but saw time at safety and on special teams. Made first career start versus New Orleans (9/7) and totaled five tackles while garnering national attention after knocking off Donte' Stallworth's helmet on a hit over the middle. Followed debut with a performance that earned NFC Defensive Player of the Week at Arizona (9/14). Finished second on team with eight tackles and had a hand in four of club's six takeaways. On the first play of the game, forced a fumble that was recovered setting up Seattle's first score. The next series, he batted a ball in the air that was intercepted by Reggie Tongue. Again in the very next series, he decleated Anquan Boldin forcing the ball into the air only to be picked off by Chad Brown. Late in the fourth quarter, he intercepted a pass deep in Seahawks territory to preserve a 38-0 shutout. Finished second with seven tackles the following week versus St. Louis (9/21). Helped Seattle to victory by sandwiching Rams' Dane Looker and forcing the ball in the air for an interception late in the fourth quarter. Had a pass defensed later to keep St. Louis out of field-goal range. Led team with career-high 11 tackles at Green Bay (10/5). Totaled two special teams tackles on the season.

Honors: 2003: Pro Football Weekly All-Rookie Team; NFC Defensive Player of the Week 2.

College: Left college following his junior season after being touted as the best defensive player in school history since Steve Atwater (1985-88). A Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Year nominee, became the first player in school history to record more than 100 tackles in a season three times. Recorded 381 tackles (221 solo), breaking the school career-record of 367 tackles by Cliff Powell (1967-69). Caused eight fumbles and recovered five, deflected 28 passes, and intercepted nine while playing in 36 games. As a redshirt junior, an All-American first-team selection by The NFL Draft Report and The Sporting News. Nominated for the Jim Thorpe Award, given annually to the nation's premier defensive back. Collected a career-high 22 tackles (nine solo) versus Troy State. Only Powell (24) and Ronnie Caveness (23) had more tackles in a game for the Razorbacks. All-American second-team choice by The NFL Draft Report and All-Southeastern Conference first-team pick as a sophomore. Was a Freshman All-American choice by The Sporting News and Football News. Named to the SEC Coaches' Freshman All-SEC team. Became the first freshman and only the second defensive back in school history to lead Arkansas in tackles, posting 104 tackles (57 solo).

Personal: Attended Fraysay (Memphis, Tenn.) High. Accounted for 2,327 all-purpose yards during his senior season, including 1,276 rushing and 380 receiving as he ran for 16 touchdowns and made 136 tackles (96 solo) and eight interceptions as a safety. Class 3A Player of the Year. Also lettered in track and baseball. Member of the National Honor Society and was the senior class vice president. Majored in business education.
