Dr. Keith Groty serves as Vice President, Education Practice in the firm’s Lansing, Michigan office. He joined DHR after spending 30 years at Michigan State University as Assistant Vice President for Human Resources. He was responsible for the Employment, human resources development, classification and compensation, affirmative action and diversity programs, and labor relations of the 7,800 regular and temporary support personnel of the University. In addition, he was responsible for the administration of insurance benefits of a combined faculty, support staff and retiree population of over 13,000 people and 8,000 students. He served on the Vice Presidential Diversity Advisory Group, Diversity Awards Selection Committee and the Executive Health and Safety Committee. He continues to be a tenured professor in the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations and Educational Administration, College of Education at Michigan State. He is an Arbitrator listed by the American Arbitration Association and Michigan Employment Relations Commission. He has participated in over 1,500 cases and 85 published cases in both the public and private sectors. His expertise in the health insurance and retirement benefits areas is in great demand. He was Chairperson of the Michigan University Coalition on Health and Capital Area Health Alliance; Chairperson, State College Presidents’ Committee on Occupational Safety and Health Legislation; and the Governor’s Appointee to the Legislative Committee on Public Employee Relations Act. Dr. Groty is recognized as a national expert and active consultant to Colleges, Universities, Public School Systems and Federal Agencies on issues of human resources management, labor relations and benefits. He was published widely on the subjects of faculty and staff policies, labor arbitration and health care, compensation in the unionized environment and campus employment relations. He is an avid fisherman and former Chairman of the Board of the Federation of Fly Fishers and its International President, 1988 1993. He is the recipient of numerous awards including University of Michigan Award for Outstanding Service, the Institute of Continuing Legal Education and The President’s Award for Outstanding Service to Michigan State University. He is a member of the American Compensation Association, American Arbitration Association, Society for Human Resource Management, and the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources. Dr. Groty is married and holds Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees from the University of Michigan.
