Kathy Duva Biography :

Internationally recognized as one of the three largest boxing promotional firms in the world, New Jersey Sports Productions, Inc T/A Main Events is based in Bloomfield, NJ with its sister companies, Main Events/Monitor, Main Events Television and Main Events Promotions, LLC. Kathy Duva is chief executive officer of Main Events, which was founded in 1978 by her late husband, Dan Duva. Main Events/Monitor originated in 1984 and METV was formed in 1993. Most notable among the highly talented boxers currently under contract to Main Events are four-time world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, two-time junior middleweight champion Fernando Vargas, and two-time world champion Arturo Gatti. Heavyweight contender Calvin Brock, middleweight contenders Edison Miranda and Giovanni Lorenzo, welterweight contender Joel Julio, and prospects Raul Martinez (bantamweight), Jason Litzau (featherweight), and Henry Crawford (welterweight) confirm the depth of the Main Events roster. Now in its 27th year in the boxing business, Main Events has promoted some of the biggest pay-per-view and closed-circuit broadcasts in cable television history: In June 2002 Main Events co-promoted the biggest pay-per-view bout in boxing history the Lennox Lewis-Mike Tyson world heavyweight championship showdown. The bout set records for total pay-per-view sales, foreign sales, and closed circuit sales. METV's 1993 "Miss Howard Stern New Years Eve" special shattered every PPV non-boxing entertainment record in existence. Main Events and Main Events/Monitor promoted the 1991, "Battle of the Ages," featuring then-undisputed heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield and George Foreman, which grossed over $80 million worldwide and at the time set a pay-per-view record. Main Events first major promotion was the 1981 "Showdown" between Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns for the undisputed welterweight championship, which grossed nearly $40 million worldwide, setting a pay-per-view and closed circuit record for its time. In 2003, Main Events orchestrated the return of professional boxing to network television. The NBC Boxing Series drew strong ratings and rave reviews in its May 2003 debut, and returned in April/May 2004. In 2005, Main Events joined forces with ESPN to bring pay-per-view boxing to the sports cable giant. The highly-acclaimed April 2005 event generated twice the number of buys than was predicted by many boxing insiders and television network executives.
