Katherine Holman Biography :

Dr. Katherine C. Holman is Co-Investigator for the STAART Early Achievements Intervention study for the REACH program at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders and the Assistant Director of our Outreach and Training Program. She is also a faculty member in Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Biographical Sketch:

Dr. Holman attended the University of Kansas for both her BA and MA in Hearing and Speech. After receiving her MA, she came to Kennedy Krieger in 1997 to complete her clinical fellowship year at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders. After working at Johns Hopkins for three years, she returned to school to obtain her PhD in Early Childhood Special Education at the University of Maryland before joining the Hopkins faculty in 2003. Dr. Holman is a certified speech-language pathologist and has worked with children within the field of early childhood development and disabilities for the past 10 years. Dr. Holman is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association as well as the Society for Research in Child Development.

Research Summary:

Dr. Holman’s primary research interests are in the areas of early identification and early intervention of autism spectrum and social communication disorders. Dr. Holman is currently investigating early temperamental characteristics and affective responsiveness of infants and their relationship to a diagnosis of autism. Regarding early intervention, Dr. Holman is pursuing research on the effects of different treatment models for toddlers with autism who demonstrate differential responses. Dr. Holman is currently leading CARD's outreach and training program in an effort that more children can benefit from effective and intensive early intervention.
