Karl H. Zerbst, Jr. joined First Reliance Bank in September of 2004 as Market President for the Charleston Region. Karl will oversee the expansion of First Reliance Bank into the Charleston South Carolina Region which includes Berkeley, Dorchester & Charleston Counties. His duties include identifying and securing future branch locations, assembling an experienced, dynamic staff, and developing a full service banking organization for the Region.
Karl began his banking career as a Credit Analyst with South Carolina National Bank in 1984 after spending two years with a CPA firm. During his 5 year tenure with SCN, Karl spent time in credit administration, managed a branch in the retail bank and was on the commercial loan platform. After a short tour outside of banking he returned to the financial sector in the early 1990’s joining SouthTrust Bank where he held the position of Senior Vice President, Commercial Banking Manager thru September 2004.
Education:
Karl is a 1982 graduate of The Citadel where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He continued his studies graduating with a Masters in Business Administration from The Citadel in 1991.
Military:
Upon graduation from The Citadel, Karl entered the United States Army Reserve and recently retired after 21 years of service with the rank of Lt. Colonel.
Memberships:
An involved citizen of the Charleston Community, Karl has and continues to show his deep commitment to the region through his involvement in various organizations and service on various boards. Karl is a past member of the Charleston Rotary Club where he is a Paul Harris Fellow. He also served on the Mayor’s Counsel for Homelessness and is a past member of Charleston’s Affordable Housing.
Karl is a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church. He also belongs to the Association of Citadel Men. Karl continues to be involved with the Salvation Army where he was a Past Chairman. |
