Karen Buchholz Biography :

Karen Dougherty Buchholz Vice President of Administration for Comcast Corporation is responsible for managing a variety of corporate administrative responsibilities including facilities real estate corporate services security aviation travel and diversity. In particular she serves as the executive in charge of the company's new Philadelphia Corporate Headquarters.



From 2000 to 2003 Buchholz served as Comcast's first Vice President of Corporate Communications with responsibility for building a corporate communications infrastructure and assisting the entire family of Comcast companies with delivering a unified message to a variety of audiences.



From 1997 to 2000 Buchholz served as President of Philadelphia 2000 the organization that attracted the 2000 Republican National Convention to Philadelphia and served as the official host committee for the event. The Convention attracted 40 000 to 50 000 visitors to the region and Philadelphia was the near-exclusive focus of the national and international media. Immediate economic benefits exceeded $300 million in sales.



Buchholz served as Sales Executive for Comcast-Spectacor from 1993 to 1997 during the development of the Wachovia Center.



From 1991 to 1993 Buchholz worked for Club Corporation of America heading up its development of the Pyramid Club at the top of the Mellon Bank Center. Buchholz was the Club's Membership Director and sole corporate representative in Philadelphia.



In 1990 Buchholz served as Special Assistant to State Treasurer Barbara Hafer on her gubernatorial bid. Prior to 1990 Buchholz worked in Washington D.C. as Special Assistant to United States Senator John Heinz.



Buchholz received her M.S. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1997. She is a 1988 graduate of Dickinson College and the Dickinson Center for European Studies in Bologna Italy.



Buchholz serves on the University of Pennsylvania School of Arts and Sciences Dean's Council the Pennsylvania Ballet Board of Trustees the People’s Emergency Center’s Board of Directors Co-Chair of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society Campaign United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania the Avenue of the Arts Inc. Board of Directors the Board of Trustees of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America’s Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter’s Honorary Board and the Board of Governors of the Pyramid Club. Buchholz is also a member of the Forum of Executive Women.



Buchholz has received several awards including: 2000 Women of Distinction by the Philadelphia Business Journal Headliner Award by the Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association; Comcast Newsmaker of the Year Award; Girl Scouts of America Take the Lead Award; Boy Scouts of America’s Cradle of Liberty Council’s 2000 Summit Award; Honorary Member of the National Association of Women Business Owners; and the PENJERDEL Council Citizen of the Year. She resides in the Philadelphia region with her husband Carl and their two children.
