Karen A. Denys is an associate in the firm's Commercial Litigation Practice Group. Karen's practice focuses on real estate and land use litigation, construction contract drafting and litigation, and general commercial litigation.
Real Estate/Land Use Litigation. Karen handles a substantial amount of real estate and land use litigation, including Mount Laurel (affordable housing) claims, disputes arising out of redevelopment and condemnation, and challenges under the National Historic Preservation Act. She also litigates actions in lieu of prerogative writs challenging zoning laws and municipal approvals for real estate development. In addition, Karen represents developers in disputes over water and sewer rights. Karen also handles contract and other real estate-related disputes, including commercial landlord/tenant actions, title issues, and real property tax appeals.
Construction Law. A significant portion of Karen's practice focuses on construction law. Karen drafts and negotiates all forms of construction, architectural and engineering agreements. In addition, she litigates matters involving claims for breach of contract, construction defects, construction liens, and delay damages.
General Commercial Litigation. Karen handles contract disputes and other general commercial claims for all types of businesses. Karen litigates contract disputes, fraud and consumer fraud claims, fraudulent transfer claims, shareholder disputes, and accountant professional liability claims. Karen handles contested foreclosures, lender liability litigation and other lender/creditor litigation, including replevin actions. In addition, Karen has handled numerous matters on appeal, including appeals to the New Jersey Appellate Division and the New Jersey Supreme Court.
Education. Karen received her law degree, with high honors, from Rutgers University School of Law-Camden and her undergraduate degree in communications and English, with honors, from Rutgers College. Karen published a note entitled "Bruising the Legal Profession: Attorney Discipline for Acts of Domestic Violence," which was published in the Spring 1997 edition of The Rutgers Law Journal. In addition, Karen served as a legal extern for New Jersey State Senator Wayne R. Bryant, a legal intern for the Honorable Leonard S. Sachar, J.S.C. of the New Jersey Superior Court, and a volunteer for the Domestic Violence Unit of the New Jersey Superior Court in Camden.
Bar Admissions. Karen is admitted to practice in the state courts of New Jersey and New York and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.
Professional Associations. Karen is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Mercer County Bar Association. |
